Spotlight Award

Our LifeChangers are committed to creating a safe, healthy environment for students to learn and teachers to work. Unfortunately, school violence is having an increasingly negative, and often tragic, impact on our K-12 education system. We’re doing our part by sponsoring the National Coalition for Safe Schools, and for the upcoming school year, we want to go even further.

We’ll be giving the 2019-2020 Spotlight Award to a LifeChanger who has made a proven impact on school safety. All roles in K-12 education are eligible for this year’s award, but in your nomination, we’d like to know:

How is your LifeChanger creating a safe environment for students to learn?

Sandy Austin, one of last year’s LifeChanger Award winners, is a school counselor and the founder of B.I.O.N.I.C (Believe It or Not, I Care). This peer support club encourages students to help each other through hard times, from creating care packages for sick students to comforting students who are grieving. Her program has spread to 700 schools worldwide, impacting over 100,000 students.

Maybe your LifeChanger has started an organization that encourages students to be kind. Maybe they’ve created protocols to prevent violent incidents from occuring on campus. However they’re creating a safer school environment, we want to know.

The winner of this award will receive $5,000 to be shared between a $2,500 individual award and a $2,500 donation to their school or district.

In addition to creating a safer atmosphere on campus, nominees must:

  • Make a positive impact in the lives of students

  • Enhance their school or district’s atmosphere, culture and pride

  • Demonstrate exemplary leadership at the school and/or district level

  • Possess a proven record of professional excellence

  • Show commitment to building a nurturing environment that supports learning

  • Adhere to the highest moral and ethical standards

Please note: all Spotlight Award nominees will also be eligible for our other awards.
