About the Nominee: Veronica Acosta was nominated by her principal, Renee Nunez. Ms. Acosta began her journey with SOAR Charter Academy as a substitute teacher. Since then, she has taught physical education for the last six years, beginning in November, 2010. She received her Bachelor's of Science degree in Kinesiology at California State University of San Bernardino, and she recently completed her Single Subject Credential in Physical Education. She also went back to school in September 2016 to finish her Masters in Education at the University of Redlands.

Ms. Acosta always goes above and beyond what is expected, both as a physical education teacher and as part of the SOAR staff. She has helped with various committees at SOAR such as ASB and social committee, and she was also voted in by her peers onto the School Site Council. Her lessons are always well-thought out and planned. She engages her students with fun, educational lessons that promote teamwork and leadership. Her lessons incorporate everything from dance, music and rhythm, to physical games like relay races or obstacle courses, as well as health lessons.

Ms. Acosta currently helps lead a SOAR run club and a 100 mile club that the entire SOAR community can participate in. She has also given her time to coach the school's soccer, basketball and softball teams. If students struggle, she is there to encourage and motivate them. Ms. Acosta wears her heart on her sleeve and expresses compassion for her students and colleagues. It takes a whole lot of heart and dedication to do what she does, and that's what makes her a creative and unique PE teacher. She is a true LifeChanger!
