About the Nominee: Sister Sharon McCarthy was nominated by Michael Yanacco, the parent of a student. Sr. Sharon has been involved at the Academy of St. Dorothy for 30+ years. She started out as a math teacher and worked her way into a leadership role, a role which she has taken very seriously throughout the years. Her personal approach towards every child and their family is second to none. Sr. Sharon not only instills the urgency of academic excellence, but she embraces the values of everyday life and takes time out of her busy schedule to personally engage in every one of her students' habits, wants and needs.

She goes above and beyond what is asked for by a principal. The culture that she has created in St. Dorothy is a warm, family-oriented environment, from the Halloween Fair to the Christmas Fair. The Christmas fair not only includes Santa and Mrs. Claus, but it also includes elves, reindeer and artificial snow. It is completely put together by Sr. Sharon, the parents and the parent guild, and it's certainly something to see. During Sr. Sharon's years at St. Dorothy, the school has produced many professionals from lawyers and doctors to senators and assemblymen. Her hard work and effort has left lasting, positive impressions on thousands of students and parents who have passed through this little school on the hill. She is an extremely strong LifeChanger!
