Marina Lopez

Position: Librarian

School: Edcouch-Elsa High School

School District: Edcouch-Elsa ISD

City, State: Edcouch, Texas

About the Nominee: Marina Lopez was nominated by a colleague, Melissa Garcia. They first met a few years ago, when Ms. Lopez became the librarian at Edcouch-Elsa High School. Ms. Lopez is a petite, mild-mannered woman with a heart of gold and the will to work. In the short time she has been with her school, she has transformed the library into a warm, inviting space for both teachers and students. She treats all teachers and students with respect, and she sees her role in the library as one of a facilitator. Yes, she manages books and equipment, but she also does so much more. Ms. Lopez is at her best when she finds herself collaborating with teachers and students on projects. If a teacher or student needs something that is not available at the library, she is resourceful and always manages to find a solution.

Melissa considers Ms. Lopez to be the greatest librarian she has ever worked with because she continues to be a teacher and a learner at heart. She is a teacher, librarian, counselor, nurse and cheerleader to both teachers and students. From helping students with college applications to writing letters of recommendation, Ms. Lopez is golden, one-of-a-kind and a LifeChanger!
