School District: Soledad Unified School District

City, State: Soledad, California

About the Nominee: Erasmo Aguilar is a wonderful sixth grade teacher who takes the time to personally get to know each one of his students. He spends time at parent conferences really getting to know the parents, and he talks to them about how they can help their child be successful in school, not only in this present year, but in the years to come. Mr. Aguilar makes sure that he helps students work up to their potential. He tries to set them up for success in sixth grade so that they can be responsible, independent learners. This way, when his students go to the middle school and have to balance seven classes, they can accomplish all of their given tasks. His goal as a teacher is to talk to students daily about attending college so that they become productive citizens later in life. Last year, Mr. Aguilar attended the CUE Conference in Palm Springs, California, where he learned about how to enhance instruction with technology. When he came home from the conference, he taught his students about coding, and they all gained a certificate for completing the Coding Class he introduced.

Mr. Aguilar not only makes a difference in the lives of his students, but he works diligently to support, help, and answer any questions that new teachers might have. He wants to make sure they are successful in their first year of teaching, so he will assist them with technology, student behavior issues and curriculum concerns.

Lastly, Mr. Aguilar is always thinking of proactive ways to stimulate the next steps for his school. Because of his work with the principal and his forward-thinking vision, Frank Ledesma Elementary School has received several awards, including the California Distinguished School Award. Mr. Aguilar is an excellent teacher, a supportive colleague, a proactive thinker and, most importantly, a LifeChanger!
